ammonite

Updated: Mar 22, 2023

to gain inspiration I went to a museum of archaeology and anthropology - whilst not initially obviously tied in with textiles it gave a new perspective and sparked new ideas for forms and shapes I could use in my work. Ammonite fossils caught my attention due to the uniform nature of their shapes yet the small variations in detail, with their spiral forms already being pattern-like. I used an ink pen to draw the fossils in order to achieve a form of a graphical style - I planned to import each fossil drawing onto photoshop and create my own repeating (like the shell of the animal) pattern. This dark outline transferred over well, however the completed pattern itself was quite dark in tone, I wanted to explore different colours alongside changing the configurations of the shells in relation to each other. I ran into some issues with photoshop from my original formatting - it meant that even though I tried I could not change the outline colour of the lines (after trying multiple methods).
